On 20 October 2026, the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan hosted a scientific seminar entitled “Latif Karimov and the Scholarly Study of Azerbaijani Carpet Art”, marking the 120th anniversary of the birth of Latif Karimov, an outstanding carpet specialist, art historian, educator and People’s Artist.

The seminar featured a presentation by Sevinc Nasirova, Academic Secretary of the Museum, Doctor of Philosophy in History and Associate Professor. Her presentation focused on Latif Karimov’s contribution to the scholarly study and systematisation of Azerbaijani carpet art. Particular attention was given to his research on carpet classification, compositional and ornamental features, and the study of Azerbaijani carpet-making schools. The significance of his longstanding scholarly and artistic work in researching and preserving the rich heritage of Azerbaijani carpet weaving, as well as promoting it internationally, was also highlighted.

The event was attended by students from Khazar University and the Azerbaijan University of Cooperation. At the conclusion of the seminar, a quiz was organised to assess and reinforce the participants’ knowledge of the subject. Students who actively participated and answered the questions successfully were presented with publications of the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan.
