History Museum preserves the flag presented to Mehdigulu khan of Karabakh

93 flags of different historical events are protected in the funds of the National Museum of Azerbaijan History (NMAH) of ANAS.

Among these flags, the flag presented to the Karabakh’s khan - Mehdigulu khan by the Russian emperor Alexander I is of special importance.

The flag is a material proof that the Russian emperors recognized the Azerbaijani khans of the Javanshir dynasty as the rulers of the ancient Azerbaijani territory of Karabakh, and the flag was presented as a symbol of power.

In 2019, the museum published a book entitled "Flag of the Karabakh khan Mehdigulu khan." The publication provides information about the flag kept in the Museum's Weapons and Flags Fund, which was presented to the Karabakh khan Mehdigulu khan in 1806 by the Russian emperor Alexander I. Based on the source and literature, the historical conditions and description of the flag are explained. The author of the book is associate professor Sabuhi Ahmadov, the scientific editor is academician Naila Valikhanli.
