Today, September 20, is the “Oil Workers Day” - the professional holiday of oil and gas industry workers in Azerbaijan. It is no coincidence that this day is associated with the signing of the "Contract of the Century". On September 20, 1994, a contract was signed in Baku with 11 of the world's largest oil companies for the joint development of the Azeri and Chirag fields in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea and the distribution of oil. This agreement was the beginning of the revival of the country's oil and gas industry and the future development and prosperity of Azerbaijan.

It is gratifying that the first meeting of the Steering Committee implementing the “Contract of the Century” was held on January 24, 1995 in the Oriental Hall of the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan.
