April 24, 2013 Presidium of ANAS held annual general assembly of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. In advance, members of the Presidium, chiefs of the institutions were pilgrimaged national leader Heydar Aliyev and other prominent figures’ graves in Alley of Honor, laid flowers and bowed.

In the event were attended corresponding and active member of ANAS, directors of the institutions, chief of Azerbaijan Presidential Administration, acad. Ramiz Mehdiyev, MPs, responsible people engaged in academic-research fields, and mass media. Foyer of the Presidium demonstrated exhibition reflecting performance of the institutions of ANAS. Before event, nine members of ANAS who had passed away during 2012 were remembered for a minute of silence. Opening the assembly acting director of ANAS, acad. Akif Alizadeh stated that, assembly was attended by 44 active members and 84 corresponding members of ANAS, three problems are on the agenda – report on last years’ performance of ANAS, election of ANAS president and election of Presidium Board. Academician-secretary of ANAS, acad. Vaqif Farzaliyev reported on outcomes of scientific-research works carried out in ANAS and in other educational institutions in 2012 and noted that, performance of ANAS in this year directed to implementation of “National Strategy for science development in the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2009-2015” and “State Program on the implementation of the National Strategy for science development in the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2009-2015”. Scientific-research works have been carried out over 159 problems and gained 150 vital results in the institutions of ANAS. Stated that, ANAS has attended in implementation of 10 State Programs last year, measures taken for application of the results of 93 works, 48 of them applied. Almost 50 Azerbaijan and 5 foreign patents were obtained. 56 claim deeds were given for obtain Azerbaijan patent. 550 books and monographs, more than 7300 papers were published by scholars of the academy. 40 series of “Science” newspaper were published. 67 republic-wide and 40 international academic conferences were held. Today, ANAS consists of 52 active and 100 corresponding members. Total number of ANAS employees is 9950; 4686-scientific workers, 535-Doctors, 2042-PhDs. 274 individuals have entered to doctoranture (126 intramural, 148 extramural). Total number of master degrees is 569 (300 intramural, 269 extramural). 10 foreign citizens entered to intramural doctoranture – pointed out V. Farzaliyev. 18 assemblies of ANAS Presidum were held in a report year. Adopted a number of decisions and concrete actions have been carried out on ANAS performance, management and organization system, specification of research directions and so on. Presidium received number of orders regarding the implementation of relevant decisions signed by the President last year. Reports on the done works has been prepared and submitted to the Presidential Administration, and other appropriate state agencies. Regarding AR President’s decree “On financing doctoral education of the young scientists of ANAS in European research centers”, by the orders of ANAS President, four young scientists were sent to European research centers for training courses. He said that, last year the Republic Council for Coordination and Organization of Scientific Research works carried out coordination issues of scientific research works in Azerbaijan, and implemented preparation of plans and other organizational issues of scientific research to be held in 2013. There are 30 Problem Councils in charge of the coordination of activities in different fields of science, over all scientific and educational institutions in the country. Last year 875 employees of ANAS were on academic trip to various countries. Finally, alongside obtained achievements, V. Farzaliyev also stressed out the fulfillments can not be carried out and problems concerned some scientists. Academicians; A.Amiraslanov, I.Ibrahimov, T.Aliyev, A.Maharramov, I.Haciyev, T.Bunyadov,  and V.Mammadaliyev made speech on large-scaled scientific research works held in ANAS, obtained outcomes and their application. ANAS’s report for 2012 considered satisfactory and was unanimously approved. Later on, an election for ANAS was held. Acad. Adile Namazova told and supported Akif Alizadeh’s candidature. Acad. Akif Alizadeh was unanimously elected the president of ANAS by secret ballot. New president reported in connection with program of action for the upcoming period, and promised to justify the high confidence. Then the Board of Presidium of ANAS was elected. Academicians A.Hajiyev, I.Guliyev, I.Habibbayli and T.Nagiyev were elected vice-presidents for ANAS, while corresponding member of ANAS R.Aliguliyev elected academician-secretary of ANAS.
