Closing of   “Czech garnet” exhibition 

Prepared by the Czech National Museum in cooperation with the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan with support of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech  Republic, Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Azerbaijan Republic, and  together with the  Embassy of the Czech  Republic in Baku and the  Embassy of Azerbaijan Republic in Prague, the exhibition  entitled “Czech garnet” which is a mineralogical symbol of the Czech Republic  was closed. 


 

Opened on 1 June 2013, the exhibition caused a great interest for Azerbaijani citizens and country guests as well.  It should be noted,   that decree on exhibition holding was accepted last year during the official visit of the President of Azerbaijan Republic Ilham Aliyev to the Czech Republic  and this exhibition is  an obvious example of  international cooperation among both countries.  The exhibition consists of approximately 160 exhibits of the XIV-XX centuries from the collection of the National Museum of the Czech Republic - handmade necklaces, combs, tiaras and other outstanding works of Czech goldsmiths and jewelers including precious church articles, such as baroque monstrance or chalices, crosses and prayer beads, carpets, statues of clergymen, and a painting  including accolades, writing sets and smoking requisites  an other precious objects decorated with Czech garnets and crosses and prayer beads. The exhibition also presents samples of rocks with crude Czech garnet. The oldest exhibit is 14th century jasper slab from a Prague cathedral. The exhibition also demonstrates samples of amethyst, jasper and silver ore from mineralogical collection of the Czech National Museum, as well as historical manuals and tools for their processing.
