Dressing element of a courtier of Nadir Shah - chepken
In the Museum’s rich collections there are many material artefacts preserved from the periods of both the Russian and Ottoman invasions and the short-time reign of Nadir. One of the period’s most valuable showpieces is the chepken which was worn by one of the Nadir shah’s noble courtiers, and is currently preserved in the Ethnographic Fund. Prepared in the early XVIII century by a skilful hatter, the chepken is tailored from a velvet fabric and decorated with multi-colour floral ornaments that are sewn from silk and gold threads. 80 cm long chepken had been used as a man’s clothing element.
