Since 2020, every year the International Museum Day supports a number of key provisions established by the UN in the field of sustainable development. Museums make important contributions to the welfare and sustainable development of our society. People trust museums, perceive them as a pillar of social life, and this makes them potential guides for continuous positive change. Under the motto "Museums, sustainability and welfare", a chess session under the slogan "Global health and good welfare" dedicated to "May 18 - International Museum Day" for people with physical disabilities with the participation of International Grandmaster Zeynab Mammadyarova will be held on May 18, 2023 at 1:00 p.m., under the joint organization of the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan, the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijan Chess Federation, the National Paralympic Committee of Azerbaijan and with the support of the "International Council of Museums (ICOM) National Committee of Azerbaijan" Public Union. The event will take place on May 18, 2023 at 1:00 p.m., in the large conference hall of the museum. Entry is free.
On 17 September 2026, the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan hosted an event dedicated to 20 September – the Day of State Sovereignty – and the third anniversary of the local anti-terror measures conducted on 19–20 September 2023.
