St Petersburg hosted an event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of orientalist Theodor Adamovich Shumovsky. Representatives of the Azerbaijani Diaspora, also Diasporas of Tatarstan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine and
Poland, prominent scientists and counterparts of Theodore Shumovsky, as well as employees of the Consulate General of The ceremony, attended by representatives of Azerbaijani Diaspora, as well as reps of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine, Poland and Tatarstan, was held in the State Academic Cappella of St Petersburg. Head of Azerbaijan`s Consulate General in St Petersburg Elshad Gulamov noted the invaluable role of T. Shumovsky and his scientific activities on highlighting the East life and culture. He also described the episode happened with Shumovsky in Shamakhi in 1936. “In one of the oldest mosques Theodore Adamovich found Divan of Ataallah Arrani, called "Petals of Roses". The Divan was written mostly in Arabic and partly in Persian.
After thirty-five years Shumovsky managed to bring to the attention of the world community the gold poetry "Petals of roses" - creation of the ancient Shirvan poet ", Gulamov said.
In time, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva congratulated Theodore Adamovich on his 95th anniversary. Now it is prepared a book "Conversations with the memory" from the personal archives of the orientalist. The edition is to contain several chapters devoted to Azerbaijan.
