Today is a birthday of Azerbaijani composer and artist, People's Artist of the USSR (1986), People's Artist of Azerbaijan SSR (1978), professor (1979), the winner of State Award of Azerbaijan SSR (1986), from 2001 the corresponding member and from 2014 full member (academician) of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Arif Malikov. A.Malikov was born on 13 September in 1933 in Baku. He graduated from National Conservatory of Azerbaijan named after Uzeyir Hajibeyov in 1960 in Gara Garayev’s composer’s group. From that year he began to teach there, and until the end of his life he worked there as a professor and head of the composition department. Composer Arif Malikov's activity is characterized by his brilliant talent and originality. In his works, he combined the traditions of national music with the achievements of twentieth-century music and acted as an artist with a progressive mind. His activity is typical by high ideas, rich content, deep emotional and psychological expression of images.The first great work based on the libretto of the famous Turkish poet Nazim Hikmet - the ballet "Legend of Love"- brought him world fame. The note of the work "March" belonging to Arif Malikov is preserved n the department of Scientific Fund of Documentary Sources of the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan and the photo-negative in the Fund of Photo-Negative materials. At the bottom of the front page of his work "March", the author noted that he presented the notes of this work to the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan.
