October 4, 2020 – the day of liberation of Jabrayil from  Armenian occupation

 

 

On September 27, 2020, in response to the large-scale provocation of the Armenian armed forces on the frontline, the Azerbaijani army started a counterattack, later called the "operation Iron Fist". The 44-day war resulted with the end of nearly thirty years of occupation and the restoration of our territorial integrity.

It should be noted that the Jabrayil region was occupied by the Armenian Armed Forces on August 23, 1993. On September 27, 2020, military operations were started by the victorious army of Azerbaijan to liberate the Jabrayil region from occupation. Jabrayil was liberated by Azerbaijan Armed Forces on 4 October 2020.

Note that, 12,523 militarists who took part in the battles for Jabrayil were awarded the medal "For the liberation of Jabrayil medal". One of them was the martyr – “starshy praporshık” Rauf Suleymanov.

Rauf Suleymanov, who annihilated 60 Armenians with accurate shooting, was born on May 29, 1987 in Abasalli village of Neftchala region in a family of oil workers. In 1994-2005, he studied at the Abasalli village secondary school.

From 2007, he served in the Internal Troops and then worked in that unit as an overtime serviceman in the Special Forces. In 2011, he continued his work in the Special Forces of the Internal Troops in Baku. Later he was appointed sergeant, chief sergeant. In 2019, he trained in shooting in Foca, Turkey and was awarded a high-level certificate.

R.Suleymanov went to the Patriotic War from the very first day and was heroically martyred on 5 October in the direction of Jabrayil. According to the Order by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev dated 24.12.2020, Rauf Suleymanov was posthumously awarded “For the Liberation of Jabrayil Medal” and “For the sake of Motherland Medal” due to his heroism and bravery in the operations carried out for liberating Jabrayil region of Azerbaijan from the occupation. He was married and had a daughter.

Personal belongings of martyr Rauf Suleymanov were given to the Museum by his close relative and the Museum’s employee Mehriban Mehdiyeva.
