“Baku. 1926: Language, Thought, Unity” Exhibition to Open

Reflecting the historical significance of the First Turkological Congress, the shared cultural heritage of the Turkic peoples, and the stages in the development of Turkological scholarship, the exhibition presents the following themes: the common cultural roots of the Turkic peoples, alphabet reform in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the language policy of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, the New Turkic Alphabet movement, the First Turkological Congress of 1926, the repressions of 1937–1938, and the reintegration of the Turkic world in the period of independence.

The exhibition will feature rare documents preserved in the holdings of the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan and the National Archives Administration of the Republic of Azerbaijan — the official protocols of the Congress, reports and periodical press materials — as well as photographs and other historical sources from the personal collection of Professor Adalat Tahirzade.

Dedicated to the centenary of the First Turkological Congress, the exhibition aims to promote the shared scholarly and cultural heritage of the Turkic peoples and to present the history of Turkological thought to the wider public.

The organisers invite all those interested to attend the opening.

Address: National Museum of History of Azerbaijan, 4 Haji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev Street.
Admission is free.
