A presentation of the book “Jafargulu Khan Javanshir and a collection of weapons of Karabakh khans” by Doctor of Philosophy in History, Associate Professor Sabuhi Ahmadov was held at the Baku Book Center. The publication is dedicated to the 160th anniversary of the death of Major General Jafargulu Khan Javanshir (1787–1866), a grandson of Ibrahimhalil Khan of Karabakh.

The book is based on archival documents and historical artifacts preserved in the archives of Azerbaijan and Russia, as well as in museums in Azerbaijan, Russia, and Georgia. Particular attention is given to museum objects as primary sources for the study of Azerbaijan’s history in the 18th and 19th centuries.

The scholarly editor of the publication is Academician Naila Velikhanli, Director of the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan. At the presentation, she highlighted the importance of historical artifacts in the study of Azerbaijan’s past and emphasized the scholarly value of research based on a broad range of archival and museum sources.

The National Museum of History of Azerbaijan holds a rich collection of materials relating to the history of the Karabakh Khanate and members of the Javanshir dynasty. In this regard, the publication is significant not only as a biographical study, but also as a scholarly work drawing on documentary sources and historical museum objects.

A replica of a dagger once owned by Jafargulu Khan Javanshir, crafted by weapons maker Jahangir Ahmadov, was also displayed as part of the presentation.

Author Sabuhi Ahmadov spoke about the life and career of Jafargulu Khan Javanshir, new findings brought to light during the research, and the archival and museum sources used in preparing the book.

The presentation contributed to the continued study and promotion of Azerbaijan’s historical and cultural heritage.
