A lecture marking 27 September, Remembrance Day, was held at Secondary School No. 245 named after Ruslan Chernega in Baku.
The lecture was delivered by Ganira Gafarli, Chief Specialist of the Department of Innovation and Educational Programmes at the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan. The programme covered the history of Azerbaijan’s independence and statehood, the historical roots of Armenian aggression, the March events of 1918, the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, Armenia’s occupation policy towards Azerbaijan, and the occupation of Azerbaijani territories.
Particular attention was given to major military and political developments in the restoration of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity. The students were introduced to the April Battles of 2016, the Gunnut operation of 2018, the Tovuz battles of 2020, and the 44-day Patriotic War, which began on 27 September 2020. The historical significance of the liberation of Shusha and the Victory, as well as the full restoration of Azerbaijan’s state sovereignty in September 2023, was also highlighted.
During the lecture, the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan’s exhibition dedicated to the Patriotic War and the Victory was presented through a slideshow. The students were also introduced to the activities of the Museum’s Patriotic War Fund, with particular attention to its role in collecting, preserving, studying, and passing on to future generations historical materials related to the Patriotic War.
The event concluded with an interactive discussion with the students. The discussion focused on the beginning of the Patriotic War, the Victory, the restoration of state sovereign.
On 17 September 2026, the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan hosted an event dedicated to 20 September – the Day of State Sovereignty – and the third anniversary of the local anti-terror measures conducted on 19–20 September 2023.
On 2 July 2026 at 10:00, the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan will host the opening of “Baku. 1926: Language, Thought, Unity,” an exhibition dedicated to the centenary of the First Turkological Congress. The exhibition is jointly organised by the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan and the Foundation for Turkic Culture and Heritage.
