On 18 September 2026, the Department of Innovation and Educational Programs of the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan organized a lecture dedicated to State Sovereignty Day at the Seyid Jafar Pishavari Gymnasium for Humanities.

The event was attended by Ilgar Talibov, Director of the Gymnasium, members of the History Club, and other participants.

In his opening remarks, Ilgar Talibov spoke about the historical significance of 20 September as State Sovereignty Day of the Republic of Azerbaijan. He emphasized the importance of preserving national traditions of statehood and passing historical memory on to the younger generation. The Director also expressed his appreciation to the leadership of the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan, highlighting the contribution of such educational initiatives to fostering students’ interest in history.

The lecture was delivered by Ganira Gafarli, Senior Specialist of the Department of Innovation and Educational Programs of the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan. The presentation focused on the historical background and significance of State Sovereignty Day in the context of Azerbaijani statehood.

During the lecture, video materials from the Museum’s exhibition halls dedicated to the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic and the Victory in the Patriotic War were shown. Drawing on historical materials displayed in the Museum’s permanent exhibition, the lecture examined the main stages in the development of Azerbaijani statehood.

The presentation also addressed the role of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic in the history of national statehood, the principal directions of state policy pursued under the leadership of National Leader Heydar Aliyev to strengthen an independent Azerbaijan, and the continuation of this policy by President and Victorious Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev.

The Patriotic War of 2020 and the anti-terrorist measures carried out on 19–20 September 2023 were among the key topics of the lecture. It was noted that these developments resulted in the restoration of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and state sovereignty.

Particular attention was given to the historical significance of establishing 20 September as State Sovereignty Day. It was noted that, pursuant to the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated 19 September 2024, 20 September was designated as State Sovereignty Day. The significance of declaring 2025 the “Year of the Constitution and Sovereignty” was also highlighted in the context of statehood and the preservation of constitutional values.

The concluding part of the lecture highlighted the importance of museum materials in the educational process and their role in studying historical events through original sources and visual materials. The event, attended by members of the History Club, contributed to enhancing interest in the history of Azerbaijani statehood and the country’s national and spiritual heritage.
