On 30 September 2026, the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences held an international scientific conference entitled “Karabakh: At the Crossroads of Archaeological Cultures”, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of renowned archaeologist, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Hidayat Jafarov.
The conference brought together Azerbaijani and international scholars, as well as specialists from various fields. Staff members of the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan also presented papers at the conference.
Habiba Aliyeva, Senior Researcher at the Archaeological Scientific Fund Department, PhD in History and Associate Professor, presented a paper entitled “The Islamic Epigraphic Heritage of Karabakh: A Preliminary Study of the Inscriptions of the Abdal-Gulabli Mosque in Agdam”. Aygun Mammadova, Senior Researcher at the Department of Registration and Scientific Classification of Collections, PhD in History, presented a paper entitled “Numismatic Finds of Karabakh (Based on Materials Transferred to the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan).”
The papers attracted the interest of the conference participants. The topics presented were discussed, and an exchange of views took place.
The conference proceedings were published following the event.
On 17 September 2026, the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan hosted an event dedicated to 20 September – the Day of State Sovereignty – and the third anniversary of the local anti-terror measures conducted on 19–20 September 2023.
On 2 July 2026 at 10:00, the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan will host the opening of “Baku. 1926: Language, Thought, Unity,” an exhibition dedicated to the centenary of the First Turkological Congress. The exhibition is jointly organised by the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan and the Foundation for Turkic Culture and Heritage.
