Yasen Ahmadov was born on 16 September 1974 in the village of Kosalar, Agdam District. His life was closely associated with military service and a strong sense of duty to his country.
In 1992, Yasen Ahmadov began his military service and took part in the First Karabakh War. In 1993, he was called up for compulsory military service. A year later, he was promoted to the rank of senior sergeant and appointed commander of a motorized infantry unit. From 1993 to 2002, Ahmadov served in various military positions before being transferred to the reserve.
During the 2020 Patriotic War, Yasen Ahmadov participated in military operations for the liberation of the settlement of Talysh. On 9 October, he sustained severe injuries and was taken to a military hospital. After spending 14 days in a coma, he died of his injuries on 23 October 2020. He was laid to rest in the Martyrs’ Alley in the city of Mingachevir.
In recognition of his years of military service and participation in combat operations, Yasen Ahmadov received a number of state awards. These included the Medal “For Impeccable Service,” 3rd, 2nd and 1st Class (2004, 2009 and 2014), as well as the jubilee medals “90th Anniversary of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan” (2008), “95th Anniversary of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan” (2013), and “100th Anniversary of the Azerbaijani Army” (2018). Posthumously, he was awarded the medals “For the Motherland,” “Brave Fighter,” and “For the Liberation of Sugovushan,” as well as the Order “For Service to the Motherland,” 3rd Class.
The memory of Yasen Ahmadov is also preserved at the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan. The Museum’s Patriotic War collection includes his protective military vest, which he used during the war, as well as nine photographs documenting different periods of his military service. Among them are photographs of Ahmadov with martyr Lieutenant Colonel Raquf Orujov and with his fellow servicemen.
These personal belongings and photographic materials constitute valuable historical and cultural sources that contribute to preserving the memory of Yasen Ahmadov’s life and military service and ensuring that his legacy is passed on to future generations.
The events of September 1918 are also reflected in the military decorations, archaeological finds, and other material objects preserved in the collections of the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan.
On September 9, 2026, a specialty exam was held at the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan for applicants seeking admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program.
On September 1, marking the anniversary of the death of the renowned philanthropist and entrepreneur Haji Zeynalabdin Tagiyev (1838–1924), staff of the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan visited his grave in Mardakan.
