An article entitled “Azerbaijani Carpets” by Sevinj Akif gizi Nasirova, Academic Secretary of the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan, Doctor of Philosophy in History and Associate Professor, has been published in the scholarly volume Türkiye – Azerbaycan Ortak El Sanatları / Turkey – Azerbaijan: Shared Traditional Crafts. The publication is devoted to the study of shared elements of the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of Turkey and Azerbaijan.

In her article, S. Nasirova explores the history of carpet weaving in Azerbaijan, the country’s principal regional carpet-weaving traditions, traditional weaving techniques, the use of natural dyes, and the ornamental repertoire of Azerbaijani carpets. Particular attention is given to the role of Azerbaijani women in preserving and transmitting the traditions of carpet-making across generations. The study also draws upon carpet specimens held in the Ethnographic Collection of the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan. These museum objects provide valuable evidence for understanding the everyday life, aesthetic traditions, and worldview of the Azerbaijani people.

Published in Ankara in 2026 under the auspices of the Turkish National Commission for UNESCO, the volume presents the scholarly outcomes of the Turkey – Azerbaijan: Shared Traditional Crafts project, implemented through cooperation between the Turkish National Commission for UNESCO and the National Commission of Azerbaijan for UNESCO.

The publication seeks to bring together and present the results of research devoted to the study and documentation of traditional crafts shared by the two countries, as well as to their preservation and the transmission of the associated knowledge, skills, and cultural traditions to future generations.
