Well-known oil worker, production worker and scientist Akif Jafarov’s articles (1930-1992) are preserved in the Fund of Documentary Sources of the ANAS National Museum of History of Azerbaijan. As a head of brigade of corporate trust “Gurganneft” A.Jafarov, who graduated from the Faculty of Geology-Geography at Azerbaijan State University in 1955, already succeed in extracting 60 thousand tons of oil on 1 May in 1959. By the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of USSR dated 23 May 1960, A.Jafarov was awarded the honorary title “Hero of Socialist Labour”. He worked as the General Director of “Azneft” Production Union from 1984 till the end of his life. Being an author of several scientific works Akif Jafarov obtained a patent on being an inventor of gas separator.

Among preserved materials, photographs concerning his life and activity, production journal, copies of his awards’ documents and particularly his book “On the islands of miracles” (“Möcüzələr adasında”) (Baku, 1964) cause a great interest. These materials preserved at the Museum are essential in regards to the research of oil history of Azerbaijan SSR.
